The Salford-born former England captain started his professional career in Yorkshire when he was just 17, and made his Test debut for England in 1999. Michael was appointed captain of the England team in 2003 and in the same year reached the top of world rankings as well as being named Wisden Cricketer of The Year. After leading the England team to reclaim the Ashes in 2005, Michal received an OBE and his twenty-six wins making him the most successful Test captain of all time.
After retiring from cricket in June 2009, Michael is still as passionate about cricket and commentates on England games on BBC Radio Five Live.
