ASICS GEL is a silicone-based cushioning system designed to meet the needs of both professional and recreational athletes. Forefoot GEL reduces the loading forces as the foot moves into propulsion, improving performance and minimising the risk of injury.
Guidance Line places a visible groove in the mid and outsole that follows the foot's center of pressure from heel to toe. The result is a more adaptive running platform, creating a smoother transition from heel strike to toe-off with each stride. Automatic Guidance Line thus helps runners to maintain a natural, efficient gait, especially over long distances.

Richard H :
I have run with asics from about the age of 12. I am now 34. I recently bought the Kayano 16's (Kayano being my regular running shoe). I have also suffered from blistering on the inside right heel. I am really dissappointed.
I am trying to figure out how I can compain to Asics - anyone have any ideas?
If I can't get through to them, this will be my last pair of Asics. My partner also buys Asics (because of me), so that will be two customers who won't be buying Asics.

Has anyone found a cure yet for the blisters/bruising on the inside of the heel caused by impact against the narrow and hard heel counter? Would a different innersole cure this issue? Any suggestions would be gladly received.

Paul :
For those suffering from blisters or pressure marks on the inside of their arches.
I cured this simply with a strip of "gaffer" tape strategically placed over lapping the the edge of the insole and the inside of the shoe and have then gone on to run marathons in them very comfortably.

haven't had any trouble with the asymmetrical lacing system, but the toebox is too roomy for me, a bit roomier than my previous 2E version of kayano 15 (and my 16 is normal width)
but somehow the lacing system makes my foot land on its outer edge (underpronated)
other than that,I'm quite satisfied with this product, the cushioning is top notch

Another user suffering blisters on the inside of my heel after a week in my new Kayano 16s. Gutted. The silence from Asics is deafening - what's the solution? If none, last pair I buy - back to Brooks for me - never, ever had blisters in any Brooks shoe.

A Recommendation for all those that easy blister, if its long runs then you need to get into Drymax "maximum" socks from the USA won great praise from running magazine and voted last year the best blister sock to include ultra/endurance elites fully endorse them. not cheap at $22 but will fully compliment your Kaynos.

Yeah I get the same issue, even after a couple of miles. These shoes are absolutely useless on long distance runs, they are only good for short occasional runs. If you use them once a week or more, expect to build up large corns under your archers.
From looking at the shoe it seems that the blistering / corns are caused by the harder edge of the insole, if anyone comes up with a solution (e.g some kind of insole/ pad) please post.
I have had this issue with two pairs of these, the newer ones were actually worse. It seems to be an ongoing problem!

Tri Harder :
I have a history of ankle and knee problems. Bought these trainers and they have worked a treat in curing all those ailments while running. When I train in socks they are a great pair of shoes and I would like to give them full marks, however I do triathlons and therefore dont have time to put on socks during transition. I have now started to experience the same problem, getting horrible blisters on the inside heel and arch of my feet, especially the right one. Im going to try replacing the insoles to see if that helps. but i would say be wary if you prefer running sockless.

Hi Paul,
Regarding the Polar foot pod, I wear these shoes and it fits just fine.

I also have the same problem. After a few runs a very nasty deep blister formed on the outside of my left heel. I'm glad it's not just me but at the same time I'm also disappointed for us all that after spending £120, these trainers should make you feel like Pegasus! For anyone who is suffering from the blisters, then be prepared for it to hang around for a few months. After that your heal should be use to it as that is what happened to me.
On the plus side, these trainers do make me run faster and for longer too.
After these have clocked up their milage I'll be downgrading back to my cheaper Asics.

I had the same blister problem on the heel of my left foot. I have never ever had a blister before but was left with a very sore internal bruise (that became a very angry blister) on the outside of my foot after just 5 miles in these shoes. Given that I paid £120 for them I was gutted to say the least. My wife suggested that I try putting in an extra insole, which would raise my foot just high enough above the hard plastic ridge that was causing the problem. Low and behold the shoes are now useable. BUT... the soles are now starting to disintegrate after only 150 miles! I am so disappointed in these shoes given high esteem they hold in the marketplace. I won't be buying another pair and will be replacing them as soon as I have had my 500 miles worth.

Happy Feet :
I have purchased these after trying them on in the shop, simply because I had never felt a trainer feel so good. I have done two training runs of 5k each and I have to say these are superb shoes. I didn't experience the blisters others have mentioned by that because I have only done shorter runs.
Overall very happy.

Surprised to hear so many complaints. I've been wearing Gel-Kayanos since they were first introduced and have loved every pair I've owned. Every foot is different, so it's difficult to say what is causing problems with some runners. I can only say that for me, my properly fitting Kayanos have kept me injury free and running comfortably for years.

Used Kayano's for years and need a new pair. Anyone know if a Polar S1 foolt pod will attach to the new Kayano Asymmetric lacing system

changed from asics gel nimbus 10 to these Kayano 16s. Like Barrie, i have also got blisters on the inside of my heel at the level where the insole comes up to. i'm wondering if i should try trimming the insole but a little scared to as i just paid £95 for them! not had blisters with running shoes before. they were very comfortable in the shop, and if it wasn't for this blister issue i would rate them higher.

robert mcclements :
Hi all am new to running and been training for 3 months with Nikes building up to a half marathon. Running approximately 30 miles a week easier and easier
I am relay cheesed off because thinking that a new pair of GEL-KAYANO 16 would help me improve because it says it all over the internet.
For the first time I had to stop after about I mile because my calf’s and shins were killing me I sat at the side of the road and stretched my legs out for 10m
I tried to run back but my calf’s felt like lead so I had to work back.
Can I someone with more experience then me please advise.
Regards, Rob

Great shoe...fantastic cushioning from the gel.
Feel like slippers compared to other stability shoes in the range.
Actually a big fan of the asymmetric lacing, though not sure how well the toe-box will last as already looking a bit twisted.
They look mean in black & gold.
Broken them in and trying them out in half-marathon at the weekend.
Fingers and toes crossed!

Barrie :
Comfortable shoe, larger toe box than the Kayano 15's.
On my first long run i got blisters on the inside of my heel, both feet, having never had running related blisters before. I think the insole has quite a big gap where it joins the shoe, this is the place i got the blisters.
I will only run for 50 mins in these now, and stick to my old Kayano 15's for races and longer distances.
Quite disappointed as i now have to find something else to replace my Kayano 15's with.

I play basketball, and cross train regularly. After 9 yrs of Nike, 3 yrs of Mizuno then 2 years of Brooks runnIng shoes, I've found a shoe that leaves me feeling no soreness after a 10 mile pavemnet pounder. First shoe ever to do that, Smooth ride, excellent cushioning, particualr under the forefoot. Nuff said.
